Rule examples

Each example shows what you put in the IF, THEN and ON RESET fields. For the steps in the app, see Create a rule. Reading names change a little from device to device.

The limits in the examples are only examples. Use the limits that apply to your site and your products.

For a temperature logger, for example HAM ThermoSenseX2.

Field Value
IF Fridge: Temperature > 8
FOR 15 minutes
THEN Notify me (App) and Email me
ON RESET Notify me (App)

The FOR time ignores a short door opening and the defrost cycle. For a freezer, make a second rule with its own limit, for example > -15.

A device on mains power stops sending data when the power goes off. The same happens when the router goes off. A connection rule alerts you for both.

Field Value
IF Device: Connection = Disconnected
FOR 15 minutes
THEN Notify me (App) and Send an SMS
ON RESET Notify me (App)

A push alert arrives only if your phone has internet. If the power also goes off where you are, an SMS or a call is safer. See Get an alert when a device goes offline.

For the HAM BLE Water Leak Sensor.

Field Value
IF Sensor: Leak = yes
FOR 0 minutes
THEN Notify me (App) and Make a phonecall
ON RESET Notify me (App)

A leak needs a fast response. That is why the FOR time is 0 and the action is a call.

For a door contact, for example the HAM BLE Magnetic Contact.

Field Value
IF Door: Magnet = open
FOR 5 minutes
THEN Notify me (App)

For a cold room, you can add a second action that turns off the fan or the air conditioner. See What a rule does: alert or command.

For a GPS tracker.

Field Value
IF Vehicle: Location (geofence) outside, radius 200 m around the warehouse
THEN Send an SMS
ON RESET Notify me (App) with the message “The vehicle is back”

A light turns on when a contact or a motion sensor becomes active, only at night. It turns off 2 minutes later.

Field Value
IF Input: the contact is active
and Time of Day between 20:00 and 06:30
THEN Yard light: ON
ON RESET Yard light: OFF, AFTER 2 minutes

For an energy meter, for example the HAM DinMeter3P.

Field Value
IF Meter: Energy Daily > your limit in kWh
and Day of Week between Monday and Friday
THEN Notify me (App)

A rule with the source Manual trigger becomes a button on the device list. When you tap it, all its actions run.

  1. Make a new rule with the name “Goodnight”.
  2. Under IF, select Manual trigger.
  3. Under THEN, add one action for each light or relay that you want to turn off.
  4. Tap Save.

See Scenes.
