Modbus devices
Two HAM devices connect to third-party equipment over Modbus:
| Device | Family | Connects to |
|---|---|---|
| HAM EnergyModbus | e39 |
An energy meter |
| HAM DixMBus | e49 |
A Dixell refrigeration controller |
The HAM device is the master of the Modbus connection. The meter or the controller is the slave. The device reads the registers and sends the values to the platform over WiFi.

Connection settings
Section titled “Connection settings”The settings are in the device settings. Set them to match the meter or the controller.
| Setting | Default | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Baudrate | 9600 | Must be the same as on the meter or the controller. |
| Modbus Address | 1 | The slave address of the meter or the controller. |
| Reading timeout | 600 s | EnergyModbus only. If the meter sends no data for this time, the readings show as missing. |
The Modbus section in the app
Section titled “The Modbus section in the app”The device page has the Modbus section only for the e39 and e49 families.
When you open the section, the app reads the registers from the device. The device must be online.
Register table
Section titled “Register table”The table title shows the model, for example Dixell XW60L. Each row has the name, the address, the value and the unit.
| Button | Function |
|---|---|
| Refresh | Reads all registers again. |
| Download | Downloads the current values as a CSV file. |
| Import | Writes the values from a CSV or JSON file to the device. The app asks for confirmation. |
| Read (on each row) | Reads only this register again. |
- The Filter… field shows only the rows with the text that you type.
- Show unknown also shows the registers that the model map marks as unknown. By default they are hidden.
- For registers with bits, tap the value. The app shows each bit and the value in hex.
Presets
Section titled “Presets”The Presets section shows when the model has suitable registers. In practice it is for the DixMBus. A preset is a button on the Preset output of the device. The button writes a set of values with one tap.
- The Label has up to 4 characters.
- A device has up to 8 presets. Each preset writes up to 8 registers.
- Tap Add preset for a new preset and Add register for a new value.
- Tap Save. The output buttons change immediately.
Manual read / write
Section titled “Manual read / write”The Manual read / write section reads or writes one register by its address.
| Field | Values |
|---|---|
| Slave | The slave address |
| Function (read) | 3 Holding registers, 4 Input registers, 1 Coils, 2 Discrete inputs |
| Function (write) | 6 Single register, 5 Single coil, 16 Multiple (raw hex) |
| Register | The register address |
| Count | The number of registers to read |
| Value | The value to write. For function 16, bytes in hex. |
Before each write the app asks Write this Modbus value?.
The readings on the platform
Section titled “The readings on the platform”The values of the meter or the controller become normal readings of the HAM device. You can see them in charts, use them in rules and read them from the REST API. See the readings of each product on its page: HAM EnergyModbus, HAM DixMBus.
